Fact: Poverty reduction is a priority challenge

>> Adopted in 2000, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) dedicate the beginning of the new millennium to poverty eradication. They signal a shift towards a new development paradigm: leading stakeholders into a new participative approach, bringing companies and the civil society into a worldwide partnership to fight poverty.

>> A decade later, the conclusion is clear: the development of southern countries has been weakened by worldwide crises. Poverty continues in the South, the North’s state of insecurity is worsening, and the resurgence of inequalities provides a lasting background for economic and social change.

>> Today, as the 2015 deadline approaches, Convergences 2015 intends to raise awareness, seize opportunities for change and engage all stakeholders towards poverty reduction.

Our vision: Converging initiatives to fight poverty

>> Setting up sustainable partnerships is necessary in the fight against poverty: this is Convergences 2015’s number one priority. Convergences 2015’s goal is to promote sustainable economic, social and environmental development in northern and southern countries, and to allow for a link between stakeholders engaged on this pathway.

>> Connecting the public and private sector and nonprofit actors in poverty reduction, Convergences 2015 builds a wide-scale gathering project allowing to debate ideas, to advocate for alternatives and innovating action plans.

Our commitment: Build a think tank bringing all poverty reduction stakeholders together

>> Launched in 2008, Convergences 2015 is the first permanent platform in Europe dedicated to international cooperation, microfinance, social business, the sustainable development, to social entrepreneurship and to a social and solidarity-based economy aimed at reducing poverty and promoting the MDGs.

>> As a backbone network, Convergences 2015 now brings more than a hundred organizations together.
